BODY, SOUL & SPIRIT – 2
Our new creation spirits are 100% saved, but our souls and bodies are not.
Since our spirits are saved 100% the moment we believe in Jesus, one might wonder: “what becomes of our bodies and souls? If all things are new, why do I still have the same body and the same mindset or emotions or personality?”
Paul brings this out well in his first letter to the church in Corinth:
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which is God’s. 1 Cor. 6,19-20 NKJV
Our bodies are souls that were bought at a price, purchased by God but not redeemed. In purchasing our bodies, God is trying to bring us to the realization that our bodies too matter to Him. To make more confirmation to this, Jesus also came in the flesh (John 1,14); with a body like any other human being. Jesus also rose from the dead and ascended into heaven with his body; an indication that we too shall need our bodies as we access heaven as a place.
After Jesus had risen from the dead, he appeared to his disciples and even ate food, with his glorified body. When the disciples tried to dispute that it was only his ghost or spirit appearing to them, he rebutted with this:
Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have. Luke 24,39 NKJV
But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, “Have you any food here?” So they gave him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb. And he took it and ate in their presence. Luke 24,41-43 NKJV
This revelation automatically destroys any wrong teachings about the body. Our bodies matter to God; otherwise, why would He purchase them? Our bodies matter to God; they matter to us too.
RENEWAL OF THE MIND
The mind is part of the soul. The mind is also a gateway and it ought to be guarded. As believers, it is more helpful to watch what we feed our minds on. Solomon in his proverbs gives us a hint:
Keep your heart (read mind) with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Proverbs 4,23 NKJV
Our minds are like valves that control what and how much flows in and out. For the believer; if our minds allow in things contrary to our identity as sons of God, then we are bound to be under bondage. We shall live like slaves in our own father’s house yet we are sons. That is why our minds need to be constantly renewed.
What is mind renewal? This is a faith action of focusing our minds on who God has made us in our new creation spirits until it becomes part of our consciences.
As we renew our minds, we are trying to focus all our mental power on the truth of who we are in our new creation spirits. This faith action will bring our minds to be aligned and conformed to our identity in Christ Jesus.
When our minds are mostly focused on who we are in Christ Jesus; the results manifesting in our bodies will be immense and easy. The benefits of mind renewal are:
- Healings for all kinds of illnesses manifest easily
- Unbelief is cast out
- Doubts and fear are cast out
- Addictions will be easily and effortlessly broken
- Transformation in behavior and character will easily and effortlessly manifest
- We see and deal with most life affairs as God does etc.
Since our bodies and souls are not saved but have been purchased at a price, constant renewing of the mind is important for the believer.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Rom. 12,2 NKJV
Mind renewal could be done by:
- Making grace confessions (confessing what and who Jesus has done for and made you)
- Reading and studying the written Word of God
- Meditation on the Word of God
- Praying in tongues
- Communing and fellowshipping with believers of like precious faith
As we conclude this second piece on Body, Soul, and Spirit; I would like to remind you that your whole being matters to God and it should matter to you too.
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thess. 5,23 NKJV
You are blessed.
